Recent changes

• Pages can use geocoordinates from Wikidata with the mw.wikibase.entity:formatStatements Lua function or the #statements parser function. If they do, they will now be shown using a Kartographer <maplink> if the wiki can use Kartographer. You can report bugs or ask questions on Phabricator.
• There is now an EventStream to see when links are added or removed on Wikimedia wikis. You can read the discussions and plans.

Problems

• Some wikis will not be able to edit for a short period of time on 19 March (UTC). This will start at 15:00 UTC. It will last up to 15 minutes but probably shorter. You can see the list of affected wikis. This is because of network maintenance. You can still read the wikis.
• Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [1]
• Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. [2][3]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar).

Structured Data - development update, March 2019

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Changes later this week

• When you use rollback you will be able to get a confirmation prompt on most wikis. It asks you if you wanted to do the rollback. This is to avoid misclicks. You will have to opt in to get it. On German Wikipedia it will be an opt-out feature from 28 March. [6][7]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 March. It will be on all wikis from 21 March (calendar).

Future changes

• Admins will be able to block someone from editing a page or a namespace. This already works on a few Wikimedia wikis. You can read more. If your wiki wants to be an early tester of this, you can tell the developers. [8]
• Toolforge will shut down the Ubuntu Trusty job grid. This will happen the week of 25 March. Tools that use this grid needs to be moved to the new Debian Stretch job grid. If they haven't, they will be taken offline. Maintainers can restart the tools later. Users may not be able to use them in the meanwhile. You can see a list of affected tools.

infocaseta si fotografie

Domnule Andrei,

Imi cer scuze daca va deranjez. Sunt Silviu Constantinescu de la Biblioteca Judeteana ”Duiliu Zamfirescu”, Focsani. Am participat la atelierul ”Wikimedia si bibliotecarii”. Acolo am invatat sa pornesc la drum in crearea unei pagini Wikipedia. Va contactez pentru a va ruga sa ma indrumati in urmatoarele probleme:

1. Lucrez acum la crearea unei pagini Wikipedia pentru o scriitoare vranceana, prima dintr-o lunga serie de scriitori care vor urma. Am primit de la aceasta doamna o fotografie de-a ei din tinerete, impreuna cu acceptul ei verbal de a o folosi si as vrea sa o incarc pe pagina. Am vrut sa o incarc pe Wikimedia Commons dar acolo scria ca trebuie sa dovedesc, intr-un fel sau altul ca am dreptul sa o incarc. Ziceau ca e nevoie de un email cu permisiunea explicita a autorului pozei si ca procesul de aprobare poate dura pana la sase luni, ceea ce ar fi foarte neplacut. Pentru personalitatile feminine ale Romaniei am vazut ca s-au folosit mereu poze. Cum ati facut? Care e procedura?

2. Cum pot sa creez o infocaseta de scriitor si sa introduc in ea o fotografie?

Va multumesc anticipat si imi cer scuze daca v-am deranjat.

@Silviucs: Bună ziua și bine ati revenit pe Wikipedia.

1. Fotografiile care au fost publicate (într-o carte, ziar etc.) cu 10 ani înainte de aprobarea legii 8/1996 au intrat în domeniul public potrivit legii precendente, din 1956. Dacă aveți o asemenea fotografie, încărcați-o la Commons, folosind c:Special:UploadWizard, iar la pasul "Eliberarea drepturilor" selectați "Acest fișier nu este opera mea.", completati sursa în așa fel încât să fie clar că a fost publicată prima dată înainte de 1 ianuarie 1986, la autor treceți numele sau {{unknown}} dacă nu știți, apoi clic pe Alt motiv nemenționat mai sus, bifați "Licența este descrisă..." și în căsuța de mai jos scrieți {{PD-RO-photo}}. Dacă fotografia este inedită, este nevoie să urmați procedura cu emailul.
2. V-a introdus altcineva infocaseta, aici. Pentru alte articole, din moment ce păreți să folosiți editorul de wikitext și nu cel vizual, puteți introduce textul care începe cu {{Infocaseta Scriitor din pagina Format:Infocaseta Scriitor (cel pe fundal gri) la începutul articolului și vă va apărea o infocasetă cel mai probabil goală. Completați apoi toate liniile pentru care aveți informații introducând informația după semnul =. Dacă folosiți editorul vizual, începeți la fel, copiind textul respectiv, apoi dați dublu clic pe căsuța apărută și veți putea completa valorile în fereastra care apare.--Strainu (دسستي‎)  21 martie 2019 16:51 (EET)

Structured Data - early depicts testing

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Problema cu pozele

Buna ziua,

Va mulțumesc pentru răspunsul prompt.

1. Tot ce am eu sunt poze date de scriitoare însăși și publicate într-o carte scrisă de ea cu vreo doi ani în urmă. Există, totuși, 2 portrete ale scriitoarei, în alb-negru, desenate de un pictor și pe care este trecut în clar, de către pictorul respectiv, anul în care s-a făcut desenul (înainte de 1986). Ele au fost publicate în cartea scriitoarei acum vreo doi ani. De asemenea, am o fotografie a scriitoarei, făcută în tinerețe (doamna are acum 65 ani). Se pot folosi? Pe de altă parte, dacă este atât de greu să aduci dovezi, nu ar fi mai bine să public imaginile spunând că materialul e al meu?

2. Dacă, de exemplu, fotografiez scriitoarea cu mobilul, nu e poza mea? Atunci aș putea să o pun liniștit fără a mai cere nici o aprobare. Dar dacă fotografiez un tablou de-al scriitoarei (e și pictoriță), cu acordul acesteia, evident?

Am găsit o pagină pe Wikipedia unde sunt puse zeci de poze: tablouri, portrete, autoportrete, poze de grup de la expoziții etc. Cum oare au făcut? Ar fi neplăcut să nu pot pune măcar 5-6 poze mai ales că le-am primit chiar de la scriitoare care solicită acest lucru.

3. În cazul în care nimic din cele de mai sus nu funcționează, mă gândesc la o altă soluție. Aș putea să cer doamnei scriitoare să-și creeze cont pe Wikipedia și să-și construiască singură pagina. Astfel, atunci când pune o poză, poate spune la modul cel mai cinstit ca e a dumneaei și nu are nevoie de nici o aprobare pentru a o încarca pe Wikimedia commons. Credeți că așa s-ar putea rezolva problemele? Vă mulțumesc anticipat.

1. Nu vă recomand să pretindeți că fotografiile sunt ale dvs. Până la urmă cineva va pune sub semnul întrebării acele afirmații și imaginile vor fi șterse. Poate dura mai mult timp, dar tot se va întâmpla în cele din urmă. De asemenea, limita de 10 ani se aplică doar fotografiilor, nu și picturilor sau altor tipuri de reprezentări grafice.
2. Puteți fotografia persoana - în aceast caz doar dvs. aveti drepturi de autor și puteți licenția opera sub o licență liberă. Dacă însă fotografiați un tablou, e nevoie de permisiunea autorului, care trebuie acordată prin aceeași procedură ca în cazul imaginilor. Sunt articole în care sunt incluse asemenea opere cu acceptul autorilor și altele în care sunt incluse pentru că au trecut peste 70 de ani de la moartea autorului. Dacă îmi dați un link, vă pot explica situația de acolo.
3. Din păcate nu. Pe de o parte există Wikipedia:Conflict de interese, iar pe de altă parte noi nu avem cum să știm că în spatele acelui cont este chiar doamna respectivă.

Sfatul meu este să-i faceți dvs. o fotografie, iar pentru fotografii ale operelor să urmăriți procedura cu emailul. În timpul în care va fi procesat mesajul dvs., imaginile pot fi marcate cu {{OTRS pending}} pentru a nu fi ștese.--Strainu (دسستي‎)  25 martie 2019 11:51 (EET)

Recent changes

• The new version of the content translation tool will be used for all new translations. The older version will still be used for translations that were started with it. Most users won’t see any change. More than 80% of the published translations are already using the new version. [9]

Problems

• There was a problem with editing with Safari on iOS. When you wrote an edit summary you couldn't save the edit. This has now been fixed. [10]
• The editing toolbar sometimes disappears when you scroll on iOS devices. This will be fixed soon. [11]
• Wikis can over-ride interface messages on-wiki. A problem meant that sometimes an old versions of any changed messages were shown instead. This included the sitenotice and other important parts of the interface. This was fixed at around 2019-03-22 16:00 (UTC). Logged-out users may still get the wrong message. Purging the page should fix it for them. [12]

Recent changes

• More wikis are now testing visual editor section editing for mobile users. You can read more.
• Admins on French and Polish Wikipedia can block someone from editing a page or a namespace. If your wiki wants to get these blocks before they are available to all wikis, you can tell the developers. [14][15]

Problems

• You will be able read but not edit most wikis for 30 minutes on 11 April at 05:00 (UTC). This is because of a hardware problem. You can see a list of the affected wikis. [16]
• A map update caused some problems on 29 March and 30 March. It was rolled back. [17]
• Pages on some Wikivoyages had problems with the top headline. This has been fixed. [18]

Changes later this week

• When you add an edit summary the VisualEditor will search your recent edit summaries in case you want to re-use one. This works in both the visual and wikitext modes on desktop. It also works on the mobile site. [19]
• The Wikimedia wikis will get a URL shortener. This will work from 11 April. You can read more. [20]
• The {{REVISIONID}} magic word will no longer work. This is for performance reasons. When you preview a page it will return "" (empty string). When you read a page it will return "-" (dash). For now this will only affect content namespaces. [21]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 April. It will be on all wikis from 11 April (calendar).

• You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 10 April at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

• You will be able to preview references. This means that when you hover over the link you will get a popup that shows you a preview of the reference. It will work much like page previews. This is so you don't have to go to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will now be available as a beta feature on German and Arabic Wikipedia. [22][23]
• The Wikidata JSON output will change. Empty containers will be serialised as empty objects. This is a breaking change that will affect tools that use JSON outputs and APIs. It will happen on 30 April. You can read more and see how to test your code.
